I am blessed to have the best job in the world, I am a stay-at-home-mom (sahm). As a sahm house cleaning has become one of those unfortunate hobbies. Hobby you ask? Well, in order to not go completely crazy I have to make it fun!?! I guess fun is stretching it a bit.

As a homemaker, housecleaning is serious business and I think that most would agree. There are so many products to choose from it can be confusing to say the least. I always love when I find a new product or tool that makes my life easier. I have learned from years of trying various products that the right product or tool makes a huge difference. I have also learned that newer and fancier isn’t always the best. Trial and error seem to be my main method of finding the products I use. I love it when I get a good tip from a friend on good, Earth friendly products that work.

My favorite products right now are my Dyson vacuum cleaner and my new mop that I ordered off of Flylady.com. I do use a microfiber cloth for all tough areas, it really is a miracle cloths! I also use just plain old Baking Soda and Vinegar for most of my cleaning. I do use a 1 part bleach to two parts water mixture for disinfecting. I do try very hard to use as few chemicals as possible for many obvious reasons. Who knows what affects they have on our health and bodies, not to mention our environment. Most of them I don’t even feel comfortable using unless all of the windows are open because they smell so strong and harmful.

What is your favorite housecleaning tool and why???

One thing I enjoy about walking on the treadmill is that it is my time to catch up on my Alistair Begg Podcasts.

His sermons are all so convicting and thought provoking. I have been listening to the sermon “When Tempted” from his series on James. I have listened to it a few times and each time I tell myself I need to jot down notes from it.  So now I am.

I love how he walks through the cycle of temptation — how sin is born to all of us — and then illustrates God’s grace and goodness by providing us with the tools we need to arm ourselves against it. If you are unable to hear the actual podcast, I have shared the parts that really jumped out at me.

    In James 1:15

“The cycle of temptation: After the desire is conceived it gives birth to sin, sin when it is full grown gives birth to death.”

There is a danger zone we are to avoid: That zone is the place where desire and opportunity meet known as the place of disaster.

He goes on to share Sinclair Ferguson’s thoughts regarding ‘Cycle of Temptation’:

    1. Attraction
    2. Deception
    3. Preoccupation
    4. Conception
    5. Subjection – to become enslaved, consumed and addicted with sin. Deceived by your sin & circumstances
    6. Desperation- when sin gets to this point we feel despair based on our circumstances. Satan tells us to give up because there is no way back from here.

Christians do not be deceived by this, there is a door wide open through which we can come before Jesus as the sinner we are. Satan wants us to believe God is keeping the good stuff from us, just like he did to Adam and Eve. How did Satan appeal to them, he made them believe that there was something better than what God had given them to enjoy.

What is the antidote to the lies of the evil one?

James 1:17-18:  The antidote or the way out is to enjoy the deep-seated conviction of the absolute unchanging goodness of God. “God is good all of the time” and freely gives us all things.

The evil one makes the road to death as attractive as possible.

God’s way is perfect, the way that seems good to man leads to death.

The only way we will ever know the unchanging goodness of God is to seek it out.
    1. Read His work
    2. Ponder his character
    3. Meet with His people
    4. Love his law
    5. Obey His will
    6. Serve his purposes

We can do no better if we are going to be victorious over the challenges of temptation than to marvel again at the wonder of His goodness in his redeeming love. Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father above.

Romans 10: Faith comes by hearing the word of His truth.

In Jesus we are delivered from the dominion and reign of sin. We are cleansed of it’s guilt and power. God’s Grace & Goodness not only cleanse us from our sin but enables us to deal with the power of sin.

The Westminster Confession reminds us that we are involved in a continual and irreconcilable war on three fronts against 1) the world, 2) the flesh, and 3) the devil.

None of us is immune to the temptation in us, but we do not have to be suspended by the influences of temptation. We do not have to be held in the grip of such enslavements. We cannot live in perfection but we can live in increasing victory.

1 Cor 10: Paul warns the Corinthians against thinking that they are not susceptible to temptation/sin.

Be careful that you don’t fall. God will not allow you to be tempted from more than you can bear.
God will always provide a door or an “out” from under the temptation.

Deal with temptation; immediately and ruthlessly and consistently

Each day is a series of new beginnings and fresh starts.

Today is a much better day than yesterday and this morning is much better than yesterday morning (the school commute was much better).
I got my physical workout done and out of the way, early (including my shower)!
I also got my spiritual workout before 9:30 this morning.

My daughter’s best friend is spending the day with us.

I am almost all done prepping tomorrow’s Stamp Club projects.
I am positive that the protein shake I made for breakfast will get me through to lunch.
I am motivated to blog about the sermon I listened to this morning regarding our sins and desires.

    I am content.

I finally got to place my first order for the new Stampin’ Up! Catalog!! You can only imagine how exciting that must be, right? Well, my order…my very anticipated order took 5 days longer to get to me than usual. I tried hard to hide my disappointment but I think, well no, I know my dear Kip was getting worried about me. “It will be here tomorrow, honey!” , “do you want to go to Archivers?” ;-) ha ha!

Well, I did survive and it did arrive today!!! Oooh…gotta go run and look at it all again!!!

My baby girl is loosing that baby look.

You know what I mean? Those precious baby features? Tonight G tried a cap on and at the same time Kip and I both said she looks ‘older’. I remember that happening with H too, just out of the blue. As a mother I would probably hang on tight and not let each new season happen but each one brings new joys and new blessings and insight to the young people that they are.

As I write this I realize the blessing is that God gave me the ability to see the change ‘when’ it happened rather than having to wonder ‘when did’ that happen.

Endorphins? They don’t get near enough credit. But, those little surges of natural energy sure do make the day more enjoyable. That being said, why don’t I remember that and make a point getting my daily dose?

I am once again on day one of trying to establish a good habit (walking/running). Why are the good habits so much harder to set? If you are reading this you can be praying for me, that I can establish good eating and exercising habits for me and my family. I will keep you posted on our progress.

    I love being married.
Let me clarify, I love being married to Kip, my husband for nearly 16 years.

The best years of our marriage began, not surprisingly, once we welcomed our God into our marriage. Is it always perfect? Absolutely not, but we now have all of the tools we need to make it through all of the difficult times.

Valentines Day has always been a fun day for us before kids and since. It is not an extravagant day by any means but in the past 18 years or so, they have always been very meaningful. This year, like many others was low key, dinner and rented a movie. This year my parents blessed us with watching our precious children overnight. I am grateful to them for giving us this chance to re-connect and nurture our marriage.

All of this was affirmed in our hearts tonight after we watched “Fireproof”. What a great movie to watch on this Valentines eve. If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend it.

Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
    —Ephesians 5:22-33

I couldn’t resist the opportunity to share a few thoughts about Valentines Day.

As adults we often find ourselves merely going through the motions for this holiday of LOVE.  Just recently I saw this on a piece of flair “Happy Forced Love Day!” and had to laugh.  It seems we adults put too much pressure on ourselves to make this holiday something more than what it really is.  It isn’t about $200 roses , the biggest chocolate heart or a fancy dinner out.  It is about expressing love to the special people in our lives.

It is about silly little valentines and fun pink and red treats.

If you need proof that this is true, volunteer in your childs classroom on Valentines Day and see what the buzz is all about.   To see these young-uns all excited about decorating their valentine mail boxes and passing out the special valentines for their friends, that is what Valentines Day is all about.  Taking part of the classroom parties really brought back the ‘fun’ in Valentines day for me.

Enjoy Valentines Day this year…eat a heartshaped cookie or candy and share silly Valentines, who needs diamonds and roses?

I have never been good at video games and was a Wii bit skeptical about The Wii.  Could it really fun for the whole family?  Would it pass the “I Must Be Good At This The First Time or I Will Never Try This Again!” test?   Surely not.

Although I have not mastered any game yet, I am having LOTS of fun trying.  I love that Kip and I have another way to CONNECT with our children.  It is always fun to play on their turf whenever possible.

Not only has our Wii little family been known to spend a couple of hours challenging each other to a match or a race, but it has also enticed my parents and sister to come over more often.  Wii have chosen to overlook the fact that it is probably because they enjoying bowling and playing tennis more than it is our famously stimulating company.  But hey, whatever works.

I have to tell you, it is so fun when your little girl asks if you want to play Mario Kart with her.  We are both terrible but we laugh the entire time.  And at night, after the kids are sleeping, Kip and I have been known to get in a race or two as well.

All in all, my doubts about The Wii are gone.
