What a fun piece of art work this is.  I love the variety of mediums and techniques that the kids art teacher is teaching them.  If you look closely this spells “Scott” ~ H’s middle name.  Pretty cool.

It is really hard for me to believe that this is Hayden’s 4th Pinewood Derby. These boys have matured so much since they were wee little Tigers, it has been such a joy to watch them grow and learn. Great sportsmanship by all boys, and dads.

In keeping with tradition, Hayden entered his fourth “Hi Ho Silver” car. Although it did not win any trophies, it was a sleek looking car.  Looking forward to next year’s Hi Ho Silver entry!

Hayden has been really getting into film making with Final Cut Pro and creating his own musical arrangements on Garage Band.  If you feel so inclined check this one out.   I love it!!!

We browse many photography websites and love window shopping for camera’s and lenses. So much fun!

A few weeks ago he asked Gillian if she would be his subject for a photo shoot. I was so thrilled with the pictures he took and I must share them.

Hayden’s new passion is short film making,  has also produced a short mini-series of videos.  His talent increases with each one he creates and I am so thrilled to see him use his creativity.

At a very young age, as early as in the womb, both of our children were exposed to music. Mostly Classical, but surely other varieties that Kip and I love. At the time, Kip played the trumpet for the Pikes Peak Philharmonic and a few other groups and we would go and listen to his concerts. Hayden would start out bouncing to the music and end up falling asleep in my arms. Kip was very proud to have his baby boy there watching.

Anyway, this not so little boy still loves music and to our surprise has an ear for good music.  His favorites range from Beethoven to The Beatles and plenty in between.  What surprises me is the initiative he took to look up the sheet music to The Beatles song, “Let it Be”. We found him at the piano with the sheet music on the iPad trying to knock out the notes.  A few minutes later Hayden and his daddy were knocking out the tune and recording it in Garage Band.  It brings me great joy to see his passion for music and bringing it to a medium that will inspire him to ‘practice’.

I must say it is moments like this that make hearing one song over and over and over and OVER and being sung quite off key, worth it.  Thank you God, for giving us beautiful music,  the ears to hear it with and the heart to experience the emotion it can bring.

My third grader just participated in Native American Day at school.  I was even able to spend the day with their class and help out. They had five stations with different activities at each one. The station I helped out with was the one in Mrs. S’s classroom…the fun one. Shhhhh.

I was able to help out with the food. A bunch of us got a sampling of Native American type foods prepared for the kids to taste. We even got to make Fry Bread, which along with the beef jerky seemed to be a hit! The kids also got to decorate beads (seeds) and make a paper doll and a few other fun activities. It is amazing how elaborate the costumes get the older the kids get. This is one area that I really need help with, I am so not a costume coordinator.

Good Buddies!

As a parent, it can be difficult, especially for the momma’s.  It is often difficult  to know when to step in, or just let them be who they are. Because really, it is me who has the problem, not my child.  It is me, who has a hard time when my little boy would rather just “chat” on the playground than actually “play”.  Or “hang out with the adults” rather than play with the kids his age.

But truth be told, the blessings far out weigh the heartaches, (for now anyway).

It helps a lot to have other friends who understand and know what you are going through, to just “get why you worry about that child”.

Recently my sweet Hayden asked us out of the blue if he had ever had a suit.  We replied that when he was younger he did and wore it for Christmas and Easter.  He asked more questions about dads suits and ties and then casually one day he asked, “Do you think that I could get a suit, mom?”  Okay, tell me if I am wrong, but do other nine year old boys ask for suits????  Anyway, we spent one afternoon at the mall looking for a good suit that he liked to no avail.  Go figure there are not alot of suit choices for young boys this time of year!!!

I proceed to ask him why he wanted a suit, hoping to not embarrass him or make him change his mind, I just really wanted to know.  He said he’d like to wear one to church occasionally and maybe for pictures.  =)  We finally found a nice sport coat and a couple of ties at Lands End and he is thrilled and looks ever so handsome.    I am truly blessed to have been chosen by God to be this boys mother.  I am grateful for my girlfriends who also parent a child with “an old soul” that I can walk along side you and be an encouragement to each other.
