As a Christian, my desire is to see life and circumstances through the Eyes of Christ our Savior. What does that mean exactly?
Well an excerpt from a book that I am reading “How People Change” illustrated it very simply.
“Imagine a house for sale as a “Handyman special.” One buyer sees the house as it is, crumbling, outdated and in need of lots of repair. He is overwhelmed by what it would take to restore the house and leaves. Too much work and not enough hope.
Another buyer sees the same house but looks ahead to what it will be when it is restored. He sees kids playing in the yard, entertaining on the wraparound porch and the beautifully updated kitchen. He also sees the neighborhood being revitalized. What this buyer has that the other did not is the hope and courage to believe that he can do what is necessary to make a new reality.
The author then brings to light to things for us to think about; What is the condition of our hope and shape of our actions when we look at ourselves. Do we see problems and get overwhelmed? Do we give up and walk away? It is so easy to see things and hide from them because they are too difficult.
If only we could default to hope and courage when we face our daily circumstances and challenges. We could be beacons of hope to our fellow Christians and salt for our non-believing friends. I challenge you to come along side me and try to view the daily challenges life throws our way without being a victim or grumbling or the feeling of despair. I know that the problems will not disappear but perhaps we will work through them with a sense of joy, an energizing demeanor and a stronger relationship with our loving and gracious Father in Heaven.
Have you ever ‘accidentally stumbled’ upon something that was so relevant it was almost like you were being led to read it? Yeah, me neither
Thanks for the post, honey. Well-timed.
AMEN! I’m really enjoying this book and appreciating your insight and leadership and wisdom. I too want to view the daily challenges life throws our way through the hope we have in Christ – and not be a victim of grumbling or despair (which is sin on my part and something I struggle with). Thank you for the challenge and for being my sister in Christ!
